Alcohol & Weight Loss: Survey Suggests We Don’t Know How Many Calories Are in Our Tipple

In other words if we gave up alcohol we could lose 12 kg  (nearly 2 stones) in one year.

A recent survey conducted by Finder.com suggests that us Brits are clueless when it comes to knowing the amount of calories we consume from alcohol… which makes losing weight extra troublesome.

Almost half of the 2,000 British adults surveyed had no idea how many calories were in popular alcoholic drinks.  1,815 calories are consumed via alcoholic beverages on average per person each week.

That means we take onboard 94,380 calories just from alcohol per year.  It’s equivalent to popping to your local Subway and downing the following items:

  • Footlong Spicy Italian sub = 962 calories
  • Melted cheese nachos = 403 calories
  • Turkey salad = 108 calories
  • Ham salad = 123 calories
  • Chocolate chunk cookie = 220 calories

…..Every week.

In other words if we gave up alcohol we could lose 12 kg  (nearly 2 stones) in one year, wow!

Test yourself do you know how many calories are in your favourite tipple?
